About Us

Institute of Technical Acoustics, RWTH

The chair of “Technical Acoustics” researches the generation, propagation and mitigation of sound. In this context measuring technology and simulation technologies are applied, both to research the physics of complex acoustic scenarios as well as for the computer-aided generation of acoustic scenarios using acoustic virtual reality (VR). The tools used are theoretic/numerical methods, audio signal processing and spatial reproduction processes (spatial audio). Furthermore, we are interested in the generation, avoidance and mitigation of noise and in the analysis of acoustic phenomena and processes when applied to machines, processes and technical procedures as for example in controlling, diagnosis and error detection. The contents of our lectures and courses comprise topics of general acoustics, electro acoustics and measuring technology, acoustic virtual reality as well as room acoustics and acoustic reverberation.
